Ramón de Campoamor y Campoosorio (born September 24, 1817 in Navia (Asturias) , † February 11, 1901 in Madrid ) was a Spanish politician and poet of realism .

Life

Ramón de Campoamor was born in Asturias to Miguel Pérez Campoamor, a wealthy farmer; his mother came from the noble family of Campo Osorio. At the age of 15 he went to Santiago de Compostela to study philosophy, logic and mathematics. He soon broke off a medical degree he had begun in Madrid. He began to write comedies and poetry and devoted himself to the philosophy of positivism . At the end of the 1840s he began his career as a politician in the Partido Moderado . In 1847 he became civil governor of the province of Castellón and a little later of Alicante . In 1850 he took a seat as a member of the Congreso de los Diputados . From 1851 to 1854 he was civil governor of the province of Valencia , later a councilor of state under Alfonso XII. and member of the Real Academia Española . He died in Madrid at the age of 83.

Ramón de Campoamor was part of the Spanish educational canon of a conservative bourgeoisie into the 20th century. He mainly wrote poems in the manner of aphorisms , but also comedies and (popular) philosophical works.
