The Ramal do Montijo was an approximately 11 km long branch line that connected the Pinhal Novo train station on the Linha do Alentejo with Montijo . The line was inaugurated in 1908 and finally closed in 1987. The rails were removed a little later. The closure in 1987 is in a row with various line closures across the country. There are efforts to convert the route into a cycle path.
