The Linha do Alentejo , in German main line of the Alentejo , is a railway line in the hinterland of the Alentejo . The 157-kilometer route is currently only electrified on the Barreiro - Casa Branca line up to the connection to the Linha de Évora .

Due to cost-cutting measures, CP also stopped the last remaining regional trains on the Beja – Funcheira route on January 1, 2012.

Many of the branch lines on the Alentejo route, such as the routes to Montijo Ramal do Montijo or Montemor-o-Novo or Moura , have now been closed . The line was opened in 1861 , all train traffic is served by the state CP. Until 1998, the line between Barreiro and Pinhal Novo was the only railway connection to the south of Portugal. Until then, travelers had to take a time-consuming ferry trip across the Tagus from Terreiro do Paço train station to Barreiro in order to get to the Algarve from Pinhal Novo on the Linha do Sul route south .

An electrification is, according to the REFER until after 2020 planned.
