The Pinhal Novo station is a railway junction in the same city in Portugal Setúbal . It is located at the intersection of the Linha do Sul with the Linha do Alentejo and is served by long-distance and regional trains. The Comboios de Portugal and Fertagus are responsible for the operational management .
history
The boom as a railroad hub
The station went into operation on June 15, 1858, when the railway line from Barreiro to Bombel , part of what is now Linha do Alentejo, went into operation. Three years later, in 1861, the short connection line to Vendas Novas was opened, so that new through trains from Barreiro and Pinhal Novo to Setúbal became possible. In the 20th century, the provincial train station became an important railway junction, which brought about an upswing for the entire region: in 1908 the branch line to Montijo , which was closed again in 1987, was opened to traffic, in 1912 the main line to southern Portugal followed , which in Funcheira again to the Linha do Alentejo connects. In 1935, the previous station building from the early days was demolished because it no longer met the requirements and was replaced by a new one. In 1938 the new signal box was inaugurated according to plans by the architect Cotinelli Telmo . In 1998, the importance increased again when the Linha do Sul was extended from Pinhal Novo via Pragal and the Ponte 25 de Abril to Lisbon Campolide and there threaded into the Linha de Cintura , so that direct trains to Lisbon were offered for the first time. So far, the route to the capital has been via Barreiro and then via a Tagus ferry to Terreiro do Paço .
The new train station
Due to the announced extension of the Fertagus , which had taken over the local traffic over the Ponte 25 de Abril, to Setúbal, REFER decided to convert the station over a large area. The previous station building from 1935 was renovated and then converted into an exhibition building. Four new platforms with a total of six platform tracks have been created, so that the current system includes two side and central platforms. The station has been equipped with elevators for the disabled and the architectural concept has been adapted to its importance as a transfer hub. In addition, the station was connected to the city with pedestrian underpasses.

Long-distance transport
The station is served by Alfa Pendular trains on the route Porto Campanhã - Faro and by Intercidades between Lisbon Oriente and Faro via the Linha do Sul . Furthermore, other Intercidades lines to Beja and Évora , which run over the Linha do Alentejo and from Pinhal Novo over the Linha so Sul to Lisbon-Oriente, serve the station.

The Fertagus serves the station every half hour on weekdays and every hour on weekends on the Roma-Areeiro- Setúbal route.

A daily pair of trains runs from Pinhal Novo over the Linha do Alentejo to Casa Branca and Alcáçovas .

The Linha do Sado of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa runs every half hour between Barreiro and Setúbal, every hour to Praias do Sado .
