The place Casa Branca is located in Portugal in the municipality ( Freguesia ) of Santiago do Escoural , in the district ( concelho ) of Montemor-o-Novo , District Évora .

history

A number of finds prove a prehistoric settlement of the area. Some Antas can be found not far from the village, such as São Brissos and others.

The present-day location was only created with the arrival of the railway line on September 14, 1863, when the first accommodations for railway employees were established here. The name Casa Branca ( port. For: white house) is one of several cases in Portugal, where was a standing for agricultural purposes in the area, either whitewashed or light appearing through limestone using shelter or shed namesake in the absence of an existing place name.

Casa Branca is on the Linha do Alentejo railway line , and the Linha de Évora railway line also begins here. There is also a disused siding in Casa Branca that led to the Mina de Nogueirinha iron ore mine and other mines in the Serra de Monfurado . The iron ore mine was closed in the late 1930s.

Street

The national road N2 passing here leads to the district town of Montemor-o-Novo, 20 km to the north, and its connection to the A6 motorway (here also the E90 European road ).

With the almost 11 km long Ciclovia from Casa Branca to Escoural, a signposted cycle path runs here as part of the cycle network of the Montemor-o-Novo district.
