The Alentejo Central (German " Zentralalentejo ") is a Portuguese sub-region in the Alentejo region and is identical to the Évora district . It maps parts of the former district of Évora , also historical districts of Portalegre are included in the sub-region. In the north the sub-region borders on Lezíria do Tejo and Alto Alentejo , in the east on Spain , in the south on Baixo Alentejo and Alentejo Litoral, and in the west on the Setúbal peninsula . The area is 7228 km². In 2001 173,401 people lived in the sub-region. The sub-region consists of 14 districts:
