Ramban is a small town ( Municipal Committee ) in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . At the 2011 census the population was 3596. 56.7% of the population are Hindus , 41.4% Muslim .
The city of Ramban is located in the Himalayas at an altitude of 731 m 65 km north-northeast of Jammu on the right bank of the Chanab . The National Highway 1A runs through the city and connects them with Udhampur in the south. It leads over the Banihal Pass from Ramban to the northwest into the Kashmir Valley to Verinag and on to Anantnag .
