Ramez Naam
Ramez Naam (* Cairo ) is a computer specialist , futurist and science fiction writer. He was instrumental in the development of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook . In his last role at Microsoft, he was Partner Group Program Manager for Live Search.
Life and activities
Ramez Naam was born in Cairo, Egypt. He came to the United States at the age of three .
He was the CEO of Apex Nanotechnologies , a company developing software in the field of nanotechnology research, before returning to Microsoft.
Naam is a member of the Advisory Board of the Acceleration Studies Foundation , a member of the World Future Society , a Senior Associate of the Foresight Institute, and a Fellow of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies .
He is the author of More Than Human: Embracing the promise of biological enhancement , where he advocates comprehensive technical enhancements of humans.
Naam received the 2005 HG Wells Award from the World Transhumanist Association for contributions to transhumanism .
Naam began publishing science fiction in 2012 with the novel Nexus . It is about a nano-drug with this name, which enables the expansion of brain functions up to the connection of consciousnesses, but also their manipulation, as well as the upload of consciousnesses to computer-based hardware is possible through nanotechnology. Naam received the Prometheus Award for Nexus in 2014 . Nexus is the first part of a trilogy with the sequels Crux (2013) and Apex (2015); for Apex , Naam received the Philip K. Dick Award for 2015.
Naam holds 19 patents in the fields of email , web browsing, web search, and artificial intelligence .
In 2014 he was nominated for the John W. Campbell Best New Writer Award .
