Ramiro Ladeiro Monteiro

Ramiro Ladeiro Monteiro (* 1931 in Miuzela , Almeida ; † May 3, 2010 ) was a Portuguese social scientist and head of the secret service .

Career

Ladeiro Monteiro studied at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais e Políticas Ultramarina (ISCSPU). He entered the public administration in 1958 and initially held the office of administrator for the colonial authorities in Angola . Then he was head of the coordination and information service of the Instituto de Assistência Social de Angola until 1974 .

In the government of Francisco Sá Carneiro he was from 1980 office manager of the Undersecretary for Budget Affairs Rui Carp . From 1981 to 1986 he was director of the Immigration Office Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF).

On February 21, 1986, Prime Minister Cavaco Silva appointed him director of the newly founded civil intelligence service Serviço de Informações de Segurança (SIS). After the illegal surveillance of a public prosecutor in Madeira by the SIS became public, Ladeiro Monteiro resigned from his post in 1994.

Afterwards he taught international relations as an honorary professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon .
