Ran Curiel

Ran Curiel (born January 19, 1949 in Israel ) is an Israeli diplomat .

Curiel studied at Tel Aviv University , where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies , African Studies and Archeology . He received a Master of Arts degree in political science from Haifa University .

In 1975 Curiel began working in the Israeli Foreign Ministry . His first post took him to the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires , where he served as first secretary from 1976 to 1981. From 1981 to 1985 he worked in the Department of West European Affairs of the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem . He then was counselor at the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC from 1985 to 1989. Curiel then returned to the Department of West European Affairs from 1989 to 1990 .

From 1990 to 1992 he participated in a program of the Rothschild Foundation ( The Association for Advanced Studies for Outstanding Public Servants ) and studied European Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Johns Hopkins University .

He then became director of the Division for Multilateral European Institutions in the Department of West European Affairs in 1992 and remained so until 1996 when he became the Israeli ambassador to Greece. Curiel held this post until 2001. From 2003 to 2007 he was Deputy Director General in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Western Europe Department . From 2007 to 2011 he held the post of Israeli ambassador to the European Union and NATO .

Curiel is married and has three children.
