Randle is a village in the far east of Lewis County in Washington state . Located on US Highway 12, Randle is known for the northeastern access to the Mount St. Helens Windy Ridge lookout point , which can be reached on US Forest Service roads that meander through the Gifford Pinchot National Forest . Randle is located directly on the Cowlitz River , about four miles (6.4 km) north of the Cispus River , a tributary to the Cowlitz River. The rural area that surrounds Randle is known locally as the "Big Bottom Valley," which highlights the fact that the valley floor on which the Cowlitz River winds westward is wide and flat: more than three miles (4 , 8 km) of fertile land in width.

history

William Joerk explored the surrounding country in around 1882. Randle was first settled in 1886 by James L. Randle. The village was founded in 1902.

In 1952 the White Pass High School was built. This was demolished in 2011 in order to erect a new building.

geography

Randle is the center of the White Pass School District , which includes the towns of Glenoma and Packwood in addition to Randle . Washington State school district legislation takes into account the extremely rural location in the far east of Lewis County; the school district ends on the Cascade Range , where Lewis County borders Yakima County . The township of Randle is within Lewis County's Census Tract 9719.
