Career

Randy Hillier began his career as a hockey player with the Sudbury Wolves , for which he was active from 1977 to 1980 in the junior league of the Ontario Hockey Association . He was then selected in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 102nd player by the Boston Bruins . The 1980/81 season , the defender first spent with Boston's farm team Springfield Indians in the American Hockey League , before he was on the ice for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League for three years . In his second year in the Bruins franchise , he was also active for their new AHL farm team, Erie Blades .

From 1984 to 1991 Hillier played for the Pittsburgh Penguins , with whom he won the prestigious Stanley Cup in the 1990/91 season . In his second year with the Penguins, he was also on the ice in eight games for their AHL farm team Baltimore Skipjacks . The 1991/92 season began with the Canadian with the New York Islanders in the NHL and ended with their league rivals Buffalo Sabers . He also played six games for the San Diego Gulls from the International Hockey League . He ended his active career following the 1992/93 season , which he had spent at Klagenfurt AC in the Austrian ice hockey league .

In the 1997/98 season and from 2001 to 2006 Hillier was assistant coach for his former team Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League.
