Randolph Klaus "Randy" Johnson (born June 17, 1944 in San Antonio , Texas , † September 17, 2009 in Brevard , North Carolina ) was an American American football player in the position of quarterback in the National Football League ( NFL).

Early years

Johnson went to high school in his hometown of San Antonio. He later went to Texas A&M University , where he played for the college football team.

NFL

Randy Johnson was selected in the first round in 16th place by the then newly formed Atlanta Falcons franchise . He is the first starting quarterback for this team. He is also the first Texas A&M University player to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft. In his 5 years for the Atlanta Falcons he threw 34 touchdowns , in addition, he ran seven. He moved to the New York Giants for three seasons , but where he could not really assert himself. After a successful year in the 1974 World Football League with The Hawaiians (he reached the semi-finals with the Hawaiians) he came back to the NFL to the Washington Redskins , for whom he never played a game. In 1976 he signed with the Green Bay Packers , for which, however, he only appeared in three games. Throughout his entire career in the NFL, 647 passes were made by a teammate, he had 1286 pass attempts, he scored 51 touchdowns and he underwent 90 interceptions .
