The grass-leaved buttercup ( Ranunculus gramineus ) is a species of the genus buttercup ( Ranunculus ).

features

The grass-leaved buttercup is a perennial, herbaceous plant that usually reaches heights of 10 to 25, rarely 5 to 30 centimeters. The plant forms a rhizome . The stem is full of markers. The basal leaves are grass-like, linear-lanceolate and gray-green. The flowers have a diameter of 1.5 to 2, rarely up to 3 centimeters and are yellow. They each have 5 petals and sepals.

The flowering period extends from April to June, rarely until July.

The species is diploid and has the number of chromosomes 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The species occurs in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Spain, Portugal, southern France, Italy and Switzerland. It grows in dry grasslands of the hill country and the lower mountain range.

use

The grass-leaved buttercup is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and heather gardens. The species has been in culture since at least 1594.
