Raphael Hermeto de Almeida Magalhães (born December 14, 1930 in Belo Horizonte , Minas Gerais , † January 29, 2011 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian lawyer and politician .

Career

Almeida Magalhães was born as the son of the lawyer and journalist Dario de Almeida Magalhães and the Elza Hermeto de Almeida Magalhães. He studied law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro , which he graduated in 1956.

He was a member of the União Democrática Nacional (UDN) and between 1960 and 1965, behind Carlos Lacerda, he was initially Vice-Governor of the State of Guanabara . After Lacerda resigned, he briefly took over the office of governor himself between October 11 and December 4, 1965. He was a member of the Câmara dos Deputados for the former city-state of Guanabara .

From the 1980s the PMDB was his political home. In the government of José Sarney, he held the post of Minister of Welfare from February 18, 1986 to October 22, 1987.
