Turbinicarpus mandragora is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Turbinicarpus mandragora usually grows individually with gray-green, more or less spherical to elongated bodies and has tuberous to turnip thickened roots , which are often formed from a long, neck-like or stem-shaped base. The bodies reach heights of 3 to 5 centimeters and diameters of 4 to 6 centimeters. Their humps are conical. The 1 to 2 straight, protruding, whitish central spines become darker with age and are 18 to 22 millimeters long. The 8 to 14 radiating, straight, white radial spines are between 8 and 15 millimeters long.
The flowers are white with a reddish central stripe or yellow. They are 2 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2.5 centimeters. The spherical fruits are reddish green.
Systematics, distribution and endangerment
Turbinicarpus mandragora is common in the Mexican state of Coahuila . It was first described as Echinocactus mandragora in 1929 by Alwin Berger . In 1991 it was placed in the genus Turbinicarpus by Allan D. Zimmerman . Synonyms are Thelocatus mandragora (Frič ex A.Berger) A.Berger , Rapicactus mandragora (Frič ex A.Berger) Buxb. & Oehme , Gymnocactus mandragora (Frič ex A.Berger) Backeb. , Neolloydia mandragora (Frič ex A.Berger) EFAnderson , Pediocactus mandragora (Frič ex A.Berger) Halda and Lodia mandragora (Frič ex A.Berger) Mosco & Zanov.

- Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. booleanus
- Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. pailanus
- Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. subterraneus
- Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. zaragosae
Turbinicarpus mandragora is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species . In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is it as " Critically Endangered (CR) , d". H. classified as critically endangered. The subspecies Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. zaragosae and Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. subterraneus are considered " Vulnerable (VU) ", i. H. as endangered. Turbinicarpus mandragora subsp. booleanus is called " Critically Endangered (CR) ". H. classified critically endangered.
