The dwarf sheartail rasbora ( Rasbosoma spilocerca ) is a small freshwater fish found in mainland Southeast Asia in the Mekong basin.

Features and systematics

The dwarf scissors- tailed rasbora has an elongated, laterally flattened body and is similar in appearance to the much larger glass harlequin ( Rasbora trilineata ), which is also known as the harlequin and occurs in the same region. Dwarf sheartail rasboras only reach a maximum length of 2.6 cm.

The species was assigned to the collective genus Rasbora by Walter John Rainboth & Maurice Kottelat in the first description . In 2009 Liao, Kullander & Fang established the monotypic genus Rasbosoma for the species . Of Rasbora differs Rasbosoma by the inwardly bent tip of the outer Suspensoriumarms .

Way of life

Dwarf sheartail rasboras live near the surface in shallow water, swamps with clear water and on flooded fields. They seek cover between finely feathered aquatic plants and submerged grasses and feed on zooplankton and small insects.
