The rasbora trilineata ( Rasbora trilineata (Gr./Lat. "Tri" = three "lineata" = lines)) because of its deeply forked tail fin also Scherenbärbling called, is a small freshwater fish , which in Southeast Asia in the basin of the Mekong , the Mae Nam Chao Phraya , found on the Malay Peninsula , Sumatra and Kalimantan .

The glass harlequin has an elongated, very slender and laterally strongly flattened body. It reaches a maximum length of 15 cm. The body is translucent, that of young animals is almost completely transparent. Adults have a greenish back and silvery iridescent sides. A dark longitudinal ligament begins at the level of the pelvic fins, which becomes stronger and stronger towards the rear and extends to the caudal fin. Another, much thinner, longitudinal ligament extends above the anal fin. The large caudal fin lobes are white with a broad, black transverse band. The other fins are colorless or slightly yellowish. The scales are partially outlined in black. Females are fuller than males. The mouth is terminal.

Way of life

Glass rasps live as schooling fish in flowing and standing waters. They are mostly common in their habitat and mostly stay close to the surface. They feed mainly on insects that have fallen on the surface of the water, crustaceans and worms. Glass rasbora are less lively than other rasbora species. They often stand still between stands of plants and fold their caudal fin like scissors together again and again (scissors barbel).

The glass harlequin was introduced to Germany for the first time in 1932 and has been part of the standard range of pet supplies ever since.
