Rassony ( Belarusian Расоны , Russian Россоны , Polish Rossony , hist. Rososna, Rossono) is a municipality in the Rassony Rajon in the Vitebskaya Woblasz in Belarus with around 5400 inhabitants (2010).

The coat of arms of Rassony was established on January 20, 2006 by Decree No. 36 of the Belarusian President.

Rassony located on the shores of Lake Rossono ( Russian Россоно ), 117 km north-west of Vitebsk , 236 km north-east of Minsk , near the Russian border.

history

The first written mention of Rassony dates back to 1552, but archaeological remains indicate settlement in the area between the 9th and 5th millennium BC. Rassony is regularly quoted in historical sources from the 16th century. Rassony has had urban parish status since 1958.

From July 15, 1941 to July 12, 1944 the place was under German occupation. The Jews of the village were driven into the ghetto by the Nazis and almost all of them were killed.
