Rasul Siddik

Rasul Siddik (born September 20, 1949 in St. Louis ) is an American trumpeter of avant-garde jazz .

Rasul Siddik initially worked with musicians from the Black Artists Group in his hometown. In 1979 he became a member of the Saint Louis Creative Ensemble , in which Joseph Bowie and Luther Thomas also played. In the early 1980s he belonged to Henry Threadgill's band , to hear a. a. on the album Easily Slip into Another World . In the mid-1980s he worked with Oliver Lake and Lester Bowie ( avant-pop ), and in 1988 he was a member of Julius Hemphill's big band . In the early 1990s he was involved in projects by David Murray , played a. a. in his octet ( Picasso , 1992) and the big band ( David Murray Big Band Conducted by Lawrence "Butch" Morris ).

In the 2000s, Siddik worked with Hamiet Bluiett , Benjamin Duboc , Billy Bang and Kahil El'Zabar , and later with Noel McGhie . He lives in Paris .

The jazz critic Joachim-Ernst Berendt counts Siddik - like Olu Dara , Baikida Carroll , Herb Robertson , Stanton Davis and Paul Smoker - among the avant-garde trumpeters influenced by Lester Bowie.
