City Hall Aken

The town hall of Aken is a monument in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt .

Aken is mentioned for the first time as civitas in 1227 , was created as a planned, regularly structured market settlement with a grid-shaped road network, probably after 1212 under Duke Albrecht von Sachsen-Wittenberg , but is only referred to as a city in 1271. A department store mentioned in 1265 later becomes the town hall. After a devastating city fire in 1485 also destroyed the town hall, a new town hall was built in 1490, which was expanded in 1609. Some of the details were changed when it was expanded in 1907.

These construction phases give the impression of a grown structure with gothic and renaissance portals , the late Gothic south gable of which stands out due to its brick details and where the early baroque, curved east gable is another dominant feature. The outside staircase on the east side ends in an arbor and several portals, like this staircase, can be assigned to the renovation of 1907, borrowing from Art Nouveau . Inside, a stucco ceiling from the 16th century and a wooden wall cupboard from 1540 have been preserved.

The Marienkirche is located close to the west of the building . Nevertheless, the town hall is the dominant feature of the market square, on the north side of which it stands. It was created at a crossroads that led to a ford on the Elbe. In Memorial directory which is listed City Hall registered Aken with the number 094 17,913th
