Gerbstedt town hall
The town hall in Gerbstedt is a monument in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .
In 1404 Gerbstedt can be identified as a place with a town hall, but similar to Freyburg (Unstrut) , Romanesque cellars under the building are also found here. It is also not entirely clear when it became a city. In 1435 the place was called Marktgerbstedt , a city wall was built before 1516 and four years later Gerbstedt became an oppidum . But it was only after the city fire of 1530 that the town was granted city rights by Emperor Charles V and also the Welfesholz fair .
Perhaps this is a similar process as in Sandersleben , where the town charter was granted again after a devastating town fire. Similar to the one there ( Sandersleben Town Hall ), it took several decades for the new rest house to be built. It was probably completed in 1566 (building inscription). The fires of 1668 and 1678 damaged the structure and made it necessary to restore it. A portal on the market side bears the year 1801, probably the date of a further renovation.
The town hall is on the west side of the market, but offset a little to the north to the actual square with a fountain on the corner of Hohen Strasse and Kaplanstrasse. The Ratskeller, now a restaurant, is located on the ground floor. The round, hooded corner bay window and the hexagonal stair tower are striking. The town church is just a few meters south of the building. In Memorial directory which is listed City Hall registered by Gerbstedt with the number 094 65,804th
