Hettstedt town hall

The town hall in Hettstedt is a monument in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

Although Hettstedt is a small town, it has an impressive town hall, which was financed by the copper mining income that made the town, mentioned as stad in 1334 , prosperous, so that from 1430 a comprehensive city wall system was created. Today's town hall was built between 1520 and 1526. As early as 1571, however, it was badly damaged in a storm (half of the town hall was ruined) .

It has eight double axes, a bay window, gable and a striking central tower, as is known from many town halls in the area, such as the old town hall in Leipzig or the old town hall in Halle . After a fire in 1627, it was rebuilt between 1682 and 1684. The long period of time suggests that some work was required. A devastating city fire in 1697, which left only 27 houses standing, also damaged the town hall. Accordingly, today's appearance is more strongly influenced by the Baroque period. Further renovations took place in the following centuries, including in the years 1879, 1913 to 1914 and 1956.

Ensemble with church

Together with the town church to the south, the town hall forms an ensemble that characterizes the west side of the market. It is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with registration number 094 65050. Even today, the town hall of Hettstedt is still the seat of the city administration and also houses the city information center and the council cellar .
