Ravage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ravage is a Dutch progressive, left-wing political magazine with libertarian tendencies, which was published in print from 1988 to December 2005 and has been an online magazine ever since . The predecessors of Ravage were the magazines Bluf! and Kraakkrant (analogously: "squatter newspaper "). The 15th anniversary was celebrated in April 2003 with a festival "Ravage Royaal".

history

On April 28, 1988, the precursor to Ravage appeared under the title "NN" (abbreviation for: Nomen nescio ). The sheet was, among other things, an organ for citizens 'initiatives, anti-militarist groups, artists ' initiatives, anti- fascism committees , milieu movements and women's groups. At first, NN appeared every two weeks, and since 2000 every three weeks for cost reasons.

After more than 17 years and 395 issues, NN was discontinued and appeared on January 12, 1996 under the new title NN / Ravage . Ravage , in the tradition of squatter magazines like Bluf! , Kraakkrant and Laatste Waarschuwing (literally: “Last Warning”) saw themselves in the initial phase as a “total sheet” for autonomous groups.

The Raddraaier (something like: " Anführer ", "Ringleader", also: "Rebell") was founded in Amsterdam's Ostadestraat, mainly printing posters, brochures and magazines for the squatting movement, including Bluf! and NN / Ravage . The prerequisites were cheap rent and neighbors who sympathized with the various magazines. "Die Höhle" ( Het Hol ), as the editorial rooms of the magazines in the printing works were called, was the active place for the publication of squatter reading for over 25 years.

In May 1996 a house search was carried out at Ravage because of an alleged bomb attack on the Dutch office of BASF . Editorial documents and the subscriber list were confiscated.

As an internet magazine, Ravage publishes articles from politics and culture that are critical of society. The editorial team consists of three people. Interested readers can write articles themselves or react to articles without the intervention of the editors. In addition to the extensive archive, Ravage also publishes new articles, campaign contributions and comments on the respective new issues on the website. The last updated webzine appeared in June 2013.
