Ravin de Sainte-Dévote is a district ( French quartier ) in the Principality of Monaco on the Côte d'Azur . The new urban district created in 2013 has an area of 0.02 square kilometers (2.35 hectares). It borders on the Monegasque districts of Les Moneghetti , La Condamine and Monte-Carlo as well as the French municipality of Beausoleil . The district includes a small gorge, which is also the reason for its manageable size; the total area is the size of two soccer fields. It is by far the smallest district. The gorge (French ravin) of Sainte-Devote is located in the Gaumattes valley, which is roughly in the center of the principality. The gorge runs from northwest to southeast and is about 300 meters long and up to 100 meters wide. In contrast to other urban districts in the Principality, there are no major streets or avenues running through Ravin de Sainte Dévote. Because these run, if at all, on the outer boundaries of the city district. To do this, some bridges cross the gorge. The two largest are the Saint-Dévote bridge (pont Saint-Dévote) to the west, which leads to the Monca-Monte Carlo train station. To the east it is the Boulevard du Lavrotto. This road bridge crosses the gorge near the Sainte-Dévote church. In the north, the district borders on France for almost 50 meters. He has no access to the coast. For the Monaco Grand Prix, the road bridge becomes a grandstand with a view of the first corner of the circuit. In addition, the Principality's only railway tunnel (Tunnel Sainte Dévote) runs through the municipality.

Together with the Monaco-Ville district, Ravin de Sainte Dévote is one of the so-called Secteurs réservés, which can be translated as “protected area”. According to the ordinance from 2013, these are city districts whose current character must be retained. Since the gorge is several tens of meters below the neighboring area, there are only a few buildings in Ravin de Sainte Dévote. However, the gorge is "framed" by buildings on the sides. These buildings include numerous old villas in the Belle Epoque style. It is still unclear whether some of these villas will have to give way to larger complexes. Most recently, a building project was presented to the city council in 2017, to which four of these villas are to give way. Regardless, properties around the Sainte Dévote gorge are very difficult to find because they are considered real rarities.
