Raymond Mommens (born December 27, 1958 in Lebbeke ) is a former Belgian soccer player and has been a soccer scout since retiring, including chief scout at Club Bruges since 2011 .

Player career

Mommens started his career at Sporting Lokeren when he was 17. During his time in Lokeren he became a national player, but could not win a single title. In 1986 he moved to RSC Charleroi , where he could not win a single title in another eleven career years. In total, Mommens played 613 games (a record player in the Belgian first division) for his two clubs and scored a total of 76 league goals.

International playing career

Internationally, he played in 18 internationals for Belgium's senior team, but was in the squad in a total of 47 matches. He took part in the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy , where he was runner-up with the team. At the European Football Championship in France in 1984 , however, he was eliminated with the team in the group stage. He took part in the 1982 World Cup in Spain and was eliminated with the Red Devils in the second group stage. At the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1986 , he created the greatest sensation with the national team and finished fourth.

After the active career

From 1997 to 2007 Mommens worked as a scout at RSC Charleroi . In this position he was also active at RSC Anderlecht from the beginning of May to the end of September 2007 and then moved again to RSC Charleroi until 2011. Since the end of February 2011, the ex-international has been the head scout of Club Bruges .
