Life

Raymond Savignac, often just shortened to " Savignac ", began working as a self-taught graphic artist under the guidance of AM Cassandre in 1935. Basic knowledge was imparted to him at the École Lavoisier in Paris.

His work was characterized above all by a humorous simplicity. One of his greatest successes was a poster of what he designed for a "milk soap" from Monsavon-Seifen , on which a cow was shown producing the soap with her milk directly on the udder. Another famous poster was " La Guerre des boutons " (" War of the Buttons ").

He had international commissions for his poster designs and took part in numerous exhibitions around the world. In 1955 and 1957 he was awarded the first prizes at poster exhibitions in Chicago , USA . In 1964, some of his works (including the “ Monsavon poster ”) were shown at the documenta III in Kassel in the graphics department . A permanent exhibition of his work can be seen at the Montebello Museum in Trouville, where he spent the last years of his life.
