from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Gabriel Freiherr von Remy (born February 19, 1776 in Reichshofen , Alsace , † April 9, 1851 in Vienna ) was an Austrian architect .

Life

Born in Alsace, Remy had worked in Vienna for state and court offices since 1793. However, one can only prove his designs from 1810 onwards. He dealt mainly with festival decorations, triumphal arches and the like. Remy caused a special stir with his glass house in the castle garden , which was built in 1823-26 with a new type of iron construction.

In 1813 Remy became director of the Hofbaukanzlei and honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . In 1815 he made a design for the outer castle gate, which was designed like a triumphal arch, but this concept was only realized in Hungary, especially in 1822 for the Esztergom Cathedral .

1833-48 Remy was provisional and from 1847 permanent secretary and deputy president of the academy. Here he appointed numerous important teachers and made constructive reform proposals.

Remy was buried in the Hetzendorf cemetery after his death . The Remystrasse in Vienna- favorites was named in 1956 after him.
