Raymond Masao "Ray" Sawada (born February 19, 1985 in Richmond , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ōji Eagles in the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2015 .

Career

Ray Sawada began his career as a hockey player with the Nanaimo Clippers, for which he was active in the British Columbia Hockey League in the 2003/04 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round as a total of 52 players by the Dallas Stars . He then played for the Cornell University team for four years before the Canadian first played for the Iowa Stars , the American Hockey League's Dallas Stars farm team, towards the end of the 2007/08 season .

In the following season Sawada was on February 19, 2009 at the home game against the Edmonton Oilers his debut in the National Hockey League , but completed most of the season with the Manitoba Moose from the AHL. Since the stars did not have their own AHL farm team in the 2008/09 season and therefore had to distribute their junior staff to different teams, Sawada was posted to the Moose.

Between March 2012 and 2013 he played with the St. John's IceCaps in the AHL before starting the 2013-14 season with the Colorado Eagles . In December 2013 he moved to Europe to Tappara Tampere , where he was under contract until the end of the season. There followed a year with the Belfast Giants from the ELIH , before he was signed in September 2015 by the Ōji Eagles from the Asia League Ice Hockey .
