Raymond Schneider (meteorologist)

Raymond Jean Schneider (born February 8, 1922 in Morges , † June 2, 2010 in Geneva ; resident in Nyon ) was a Swiss meteorologist .

Life

Family and education

Consisting of Morges in the canton of Vaud originating Raymond Schneider, son of Charles Jules Schneider and his marriage wife Lucie Berthe Louise born Champendal, completed after obtaining the baccalaureate to study mathematics and physics at the ETH Lausanne .

Raymond Schneider married Agatha Verena, daughter of Johannes Luchsinger, who died in 1956 in 1948, and Edith, daughter of Paul Bauhofer, in 1957. He died in Geneva in June 2010 at the age of 88.

Professional career

After Raymond Schneider had held a secondary teaching position since 1943 , he moved to the ETH Lausanne as an assistant to Prof. André Mercier in 1945, the following year he got a job as a meteorologist at Kloten Airport , and in 1955 he was made head of the meteorological service at Swissair . In 1958 Raymond Schneider was appointed vice director of the Swiss Meteorological Institute in Zurich , in 1964 he was promoted to director, in 1975 he resigned. Most recently, Schneider was Deputy Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva.
