Comte Raymond de Sèze (born September 26, 1748 in Bordeaux , † May 2, 1828 in Paris ) was a French lawyer .

Raymond de Sèze was one of Queen Marie Antoinette's defenders in the collar affair . In 1789 he brought about the acquittal of General of the Swiss Guard , Pierre Victor de Besenval de Brünstatt that because of high treason accused. During the French Revolution he was together with François Denis Tronchet and Chrétien-Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes defender of Louis XVI. before the National Convention . On January 31, 1794, he was arrested by the revolutionaries and was only released after the 9th Thermidor on July 27, 1794.

Louis XVIII , the brother of Louis XVI. , appointed him President of the Court of Cassation ( Cour de cassation ) in 1815 . In 1816 he was made peer of France . After de Sèze took over the court of Louis XVIII during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte's Hundred Days . into exile to Ghent was followed, it was after the second restoration to 1817 Count ( Comte appointed). On May 22, 1816 he became a member of the Académie française ( Fauteuil 33 ), thereby replacing Jean-François Ducis .
