Razia Sultana (2019)

Razia Sultana ( Bengali রাজিয়া সুলতানা ; * 1973 in Maungtaw , Rakhine State , Burma ) is a Bangladeshi lawyer and human rights activist . She received the United States Department of State's International Women of Courage Award in 2019 .

Commitment and honor

Sultana is one of Myanmar's ethnic group of Rohingya on. She represents Rohingya refugees before the International Court of Justice in The Hague and documented the systematic sexual violence against women and girls.

On March 7, 2019, Razia Sultana received the “International Women of Courage Award”. Among the ten winners of the year were women from Djibouti , Jordan and Montenegro . The award was presented to them by Melania Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo .
