ReGenesis is a Canadian television series that was broadcast in German-speaking countries on arte . It was produced by The Movie Network and Movie Central in association with Shaftesbury Films . It deals with the scientists of the NorBAC ( Nor th American B iotechnology A dvisory C ommission), a fictitious organization that deals with organic problems in Canada, the US and Mexico. Its head office with a laboratory is located in Toronto .
The series is mainly about the scientific director of NorBAC, David Sandström (played by Peter Outerbridge ) and his work with the other scientists.
ReGenesis was one of the first international series to integrate interactive media into the series. So there is an alternate reality game created in the universe of the series ; the connection between game and television broadcast is called ReGenesis Extended Reality . ReGenesis has already won the Canadian New Media Award for the best cross-platform project in 2004 and a FITC Design & Technology Award for Excellence in Convergence .
ReGenesis Extended Reality draws the player into a world of conspiracies and mysteries that relate to the series but also go beyond it. The media used for this are the Internet, email and other means to involve the player. By blurring the line between reality and fiction, ReGenesis Extended Reality has developed an active fan base who stimulate discussions and joint investigations on the website.
The Canadian premiere of the series began with the first season in October 2004, which ended in January 2005. Seasons 2, 3 and 4 followed in 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively. The series was discontinued after season 4. In Germany only the first two seasons have been shown on TV (on Arte). Seasons 3 and 4 were never dubbed. In Germany (and some other European countries) only the first two seasons were available on DVD for a long time, but now seasons 3 and 4 are also unsynchronized, but available with German subtitles.
