Reactor was an Augsburg power and speed metal band that was formed in 1988 and disbanded in 2006.

history

Reactor was founded in 1988 by drummer Muck Langmair and guitarist Markus Baier. After guitarist Thorsten Schwalm, bassist Robert Käfferlein and singer Jerry Bryant joined the band, the first rehearsals followed. In 1989 the first appearance followed in the Augsburg Club Clochard, where Deep Purple had also held one of their first concerts in Germany . A first demo followed. In 1989 and 1990 the band played more than 70 gigs, mainly in Germany. In 1991 the band recorded a first album with Rather Dead Than Dishonored . It was released in May and reached number four on the Japanese import charts in May 1992 . From summer to winter 1992 the band played gigs all over Germany. In addition, the band signed a licensing agreement for Japan in 1993 with Zero Corporation. In May 1993 the album Revelation was released . In the same year, shortly after an appearance at the Horror Infernal Festival in Dortmund , in which bands such as Accu§er , Morgoth and Carcass had participated, singer Jerry Bryant and drummer Muck Langmair left the band. Markus Sturz joined the cast as the new drummer, while SL Coe took the position of singer, previously employed by Scanner , who was also the producer of Revelation . In 1995 the band recorded songs for their next album Farewell to Reality within four weeks , which was released that same year. In order not to jeopardize the success in Japan and thus to obtain a secure source of income, contrary to western trends, it was geared towards the local taste. The following year the band separated from singer Coe and guitarist Schwalm. The band continued their career as a trio, with bassist Käfferlein now also taking on the role of singer. This was followed by the fourth album A Short Fairy Tale in April 1998. From May to July 1999, the band recorded the demo The South Strikes Back , which was released at Popkomm in Cologne that same year . Then the band started looking for a second guitarist. Towards the end of the year, Hans Reichelt joined the band as a guitarist. In 2000 Daniel Unzner joined as bassist, so that Käfferlein could concentrate completely on the vocals. Various appearances followed, mainly in southern Germany. In 2000 the band released the single Augschburg , a fan song for the Augsburg Panthers, a local ice hockey team . In 2001 the demo Clean Tales was also released , which contained four unplugged songs. In November 2002, work began on the fifth album, which was recorded at Dreamscape Studios under the direction of producer Jan Vacik . The album was released in 2004 under the name No Rest Yet . In 2006 the band split up.

style

The debut Rather Dead Than Dishonored is described by Matthias Breusch from Metal Hammer as “ running wild for the poor”. The second album Revelation was received more positively. The band played a mix of power and speed metal here too. Fast guitar riffs and tempo changes are characteristic of the album, which reminds the band of Angel Dust . On Farewell to Reality , the band also played melodic metal, which occasionally sounds anthem- like, comparable to Painkiller by Judas Priest or the bands Phantom , Scanner and Riot .
