Rebutia brunnescens is a species of plant in the genus Rebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet is derived from the Latin word brunnescens for 'brownish'. The species was originallyfirst describedwith the incorrect spelling Rebutia brunescens .

description

Rebutia brunnescens grows individually with dark green, brownish purple tinted bodies. The bodies reach diameters of up to 5 centimeters. Nothing is known about the roots. The 13 to 14 ribs are clearly divided into rounded cusps. The oval areoles on it are brownish. The thorns are brownish, a little darker at their tip and base. Their base is somewhat thickened. The up to 2 central spines, which can also be missing, are up to 10 millimeters long. The 11 to 13 radial spines are interwoven.

The red flowers have a whitish throat. They are up to 4 inches long. The spherical fruits are brownish.

Distribution and systematics

Rebutia brunnescens is widespread in Bolivia in the Chuquisaca department in the area around Tarabuco at altitudes of 3400 to 3500 meters, where it grows in the puna vegetation. The first description was published in 1972 by Walter Rausch (* 1928).
