Reckwitz is a village in the municipality of Wermsdorf in the northern Saxony district . With the place Wermsdorf Reckwitz forms the district Wermsdorf. The village is located south of Wermsdorf and Hubertusburg Castle at the Döllnitzsee dam .

history

The Reckwitz, laid out as a square village and provided with a block and striped corridor, was mentioned in 1350 as Rekewicz and in 1370 as Regkewicz . It was subordinate to the castle (castrum) and later to the office of Grimma . Reckwitz only came to the Mutzschen office in the first half of the 19th century .

A Vorwerk is documented for the year 1416 . The Sornzig monastery exercised the manorial rule in 1548 , and by 1764 at the latest Reckwitz was an official village .

Around 1550 there were 10 possessed men and 7 residents working in Reckwitz , and two centuries later the population was almost unchanged at 10 farmers and 5  cottagers . In the course of the 19th century, the population remained relatively stable at just under 200, and only rose significantly in the last quarter. With around 300 inhabitants in 1925 and around 400 in May 1939, the number of inhabitants has doubled within half a century. In 1946, Reckwitz again had fewer than 300 inhabitants.

With the introduction of the Amtshauptmannschaft in the Kingdom of Saxony Reckwitz came to the Amtshauptmannschaft Oschatz , later the district of Oschatz. On July 1, 1950, Reckwitz was incorporated into Wermsdorf.

On November 1, 1888, the Mügeln – Neichen narrow-gauge railway was opened, with a stop in Reckwitz. The last passenger train passed Reckwitz in 1972, the tracks were dismantled after the closure. A reconstruction of the route along the former route is no longer possible today because of the dam.

The Döllnitzsee dam, originally built in 1850, was reconstructed in the early 1980s as a replacement for the Elsterstausee , which was reduced in size by using open- cast mining. In addition to the dam, a protective dam up to 5 meters high and 665 meters long was built, as the water level is higher than parts of the Reckwitz property.
