Record's current headquarters in São Paulo

RecordTV is a large Brazilian radio and broadcasting network founded in São Paulo on September 17, 1953 by the lawyer and businessman Paulo Machado de Carvalho . The television broadcaster's headquarters are located near Avenida Marginal Tieté in the Barra Funda district of São Paulo.

history

Rede Record is the oldest radio and television company in Brazil. It belonged to the Silvio Santos group and was sold to Edir Macedo Bezerra in 1989 for $ 45 million . Bezerra is the owner, founder and bishop of the Pentecostal Church Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus . Macedo started his congregation in 1977 in a former funeral home in Rio de Janeiro . Today it is subordinate to an empire of radio and television stations, as well as over 1,000 churches. His communities have millions of followers. TV Record was the fifth largest TV network in Brazil in 2011 .

program

Formerly, TV Record was a relatively insignificant broadcaster trying to copy television formats that had proven successful on other broadcasters. In the meantime, however, Pentecostal programs form the main program. Telenovelas and shopping programs are shown during the rest of the broadcasting time, especially in the evening . At the weekend and late in the evening, TV Record increasingly relies on feature films.

TV Record's program is fed into several cable networks in Europe and transmitted via satellite to various countries in Africa . The Brazilian TV program primarily conveys the culture and way of life of Brazil and exerts considerable cultural influence, including in Africa. This arouses increasing protest. Successful shows such as "O Melhor do Brasil", "Domingo espectular", "Tudo é Possível" and the "Jornal da Record" are the station's trademarks.

The program creators are trying to entertain mainly in the up-and-coming Portuguese-speaking African states Angola , Mozambique , Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau , through an uncritical program based primarily on Brazilian telenovelas and Pentecostal programs by Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus . While telenovelas are very popular with many young Africans, for example in Angola and in Mozambique with TV Miramar , the increasingly "Brazilianization" of these states is a reality that is arousing criticism.
