The Recreation Ground (through sponsorship agreement The Electrical Services Stadium ) is a football stadium in the English town of Aldershot in the district Rushmoor , county Hampshire .

history

Aldershot Town (from 1932 FC Aldershot ) leased the area in the middle of a public park from the city after it was founded in 1926. Due to its location, the park was closed on match days in order to collect entrance fees. In the 1929/30 season the first grandstand was built on the south side, after the admission to the Football League in 1932 a grandstand was also built on the north side. After the Second World War, spectator stands were also built on the east side of the stadium. In 1980 the north stand was modernized, at which time the stadium officially had a seating capacity of 16,000, including 1,885 seats. In March 1992, the club stopped playing during the current season for financial reasons and was dissolved. The football club Aldershot Town , which was founded a little later as a successor, began playing for the 1992/93 season in the Recreation Ground.

The venue currently has a capacity of 7,100 seats, 2,136 of which are seats. The English paper supplier EBB Paper acquired the naming rights for two years ; from July 1, 2008 to 2013, the stadium was officially called The EBB Stadium at the Recreation Ground ( EBB Stadium for short ). The venue is also called The Rec for short . In September 2013, Central Heating Services acquired the naming rights to the Aldershot Town venue for three years. The stadium is called The Electrical Services Stadium .

Visitor record and average attendance

The attendance record dates back to January 28, 1970, when FC Aldershot faced Carlisle United (1: 4) in front of 19,138 visitors in the fourth round replay in the 1969/70 FA Cup . Most of the crowd for a game in Aldershot Town came to the first round of the 2000/01 FA Cup on November 18, 2000 when 7,500 fans watched the game against Brighton & Hove Albion (2-6) in the stadium.

The grandstands

  • North Stand : 1,540 spaces

The North Stand is the main tier of the stadium. The changing rooms, press center, conference room, director's box and offices are located in the grandstand. The Phoenix Bar is at the back .

  • South Side : 1,380 seats

The South Side grandstand alongside the square was the stadium's first spectator tier. It opened in the 1929/30 season. Little has changed since it was built. Wailey's Bar is behind the building .

  • East Bank : 4,180 seats

The East Bank grandstand behind the gate is the largest seating area. The special thing about the grandstand is the arched shape of the roof.

  • High Street End : 500 seats

In 2008 Aldershot Town was promoted to Football League Two , and the West Grandstand High Street End has been closed since then. The reason for this was that according to league regulations, all standing stands must be laid out in steps.
