John "Jack" Beattie (born October 2, 1907 in Ibstock , England , † December 26, 1990 in Chemainus , British Columbia , Canada ) was a British ice hockey player who, in the course of his active career between 1928 and 1943, among other things, 358 games for the Boston Bruins , Detroit Red Wings and New York Americans played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position .
Career
Born in England but raised in Edmonton , Canada , Beattie started his career in the Canadian province of British Columbia . There he was active between 1928 and 1930 for the Vancouver Lions in the Pacific Coast Hockey League , where he established himself as a profitable scorer .
In May 1930, the Lions sold the striker together with Joe Jerwa for $ 25,000 to the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League , who only used him with the Springfield Indians from the Canadian-American Hockey League . Due to a dispute over the validity of his contract with the Rangers, Beattie was awarded the Boston Bruins in December of that year . In the Bruins, the native British played despite a broken leg during the 1931/32 season for the following seven seasons alongside Cooney Weiland , Dit Clapper and Nels Stewart . In December 1937 it was finally given to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Gord Pettinger . After only eleven missions, he was passed on for Joe Lamb to the New York Americans the following month . There he ended the season and played a few more in the following season before the Amerks exercised their rights and brought Lamb back and Beattie withdrew from the NHL.
Between 1941 and 1943 he completed a few more amateur games in the Vancouver region . Beattie died on December 26, 1990 at the age of 83.
