Red Perkins (country singer)
Red Perkins ( August 3, 1920 - August 15, 1990 ) was an American country singer . Perkins was known for various titles on King Records .
Career
Red Perkins, nor related to the Jazz - trumpeter Red Perkins like Carl Perkins , remains to this day more or less a mystery within the country music since little is known about him. Perkins first appeared in the country scene in 1947 when he began to work as a singer for Paul Howard in his western swing band, the Arkansas Cotton Pickers . He belonged to this group until 1949, but at the same time led his own career.
In 1949 and 1950 Perkins could be heard on WLW from Cincinnati , Ohio (at times also with Hoppy Hopkins) and had already made his first recordings in 1948 with Howard and the Arkansas Cotton Pickers for the Cincinnati-based label King Records ; the recordings were still released under Howard's name at this point. In 1949 the label gave Perkins the chance to record his first solo tracks and in May of the same year Perkins held his first session in the King Recording Studio. In November 1949 and in the course of 1950 further sessions followed, the tracks of his last studio visit were published on King's sub-label DeLuxe Records under the name Red Perkins and his Kentucky Redheads . In March 1950, Perkins played as a singer with Paul Howard and his band in the KWKH studio in Shreveport , Louisiana , also a few tracks.
Perkins' recordings for King included songs like A Long Necked Bottle , Hoe Down Boogie or Aggravating Lou from Louisville , but none of his singles found their way into the charts, which was not least due to the bad marketing of the label. What Perkins did after that is uncertain. Birth or death dates are also unknown.
