Refat Abdurachmanowitsch Chubarow

Refat Tschubarow ( Crimean Tatar Refat Abdurahman oğlu Çubarov ; born September 22, 1957 in Samarkand ) is a Ukrainian - Crimean Tatar politician. He is a historian and archivist by profession.

Life

Chubarov was born in Samarkand ( Uzbekistan ), where his family had been deported in 1944 from the village of Aj-Seres in the Crimea . In 1968 he returned to the Crimea with his parents. From 1974 to 1975 he was a vocational student in Simferopol . In 1975 he worked as a stonemason in Tiraspol and from 1975 to 1977 he served in the Soviet Army . From 1977 to 1983 he studied in Moscow at the State Historical Archives Institute .

From 1983 to 1991 he worked as an archivist in Riga, since 1984 as director of the “Central State Archives of the October Revolution” and of the “Building of Socialism” in Riga . In 1989 he became a member of the Riga People's Council for the Popular Front Party of Latvia . From 1990 to 1991 he was a member of the State Commission on the Problems of the Crimean Tatar People at the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

Chubarov was Chairman of the Parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea from 1995 to 1998 and Member of Parliament of Ukraine from 1998 to 2007 . Since 2009 he has been President of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars. Since November 2013 he has been chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis . On July 5, 2014, Chubarov was banned from entering the Crimea for a period of five years due to alleged “extremist activities”.

Chubarov is married and has three children.

Honors

Chubarow is a bearer of the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise IV class. On January 21, 2017, he was awarded the highest order in Ukraine, the Order of Freedom .
