Reformation Church
Reformation churches or Reformation Memorial Churches are Protestant church buildings that were named after the event of the Reformation . Most of them are churches from the 19th and 20th centuries, which have been named this way from the beginning. In other cases, the name was added later to an already existing church.
Well-known Reformation churches are:
- Reformation Church in Bad Schwalbach , built in 1740 as a reformed church
- Reformation Church in Berlin-Moabit , built 1905–1907 according to plans by August Dinklage and Ernst Paulus (based on previous designs by the cathedral builder Ernst Schwartzkopff )
- Reformation Memorial Church in Eggenfelden, 1937
- Reformation Church in Essen-Rüttenscheid , built in 1949–1950 elsewhere to replace a previous building of the same name (1899–1902) that had been destroyed in the war
- Reformation Church in Hilden , late Romanesque gallery basilica built around 1210, which has been called the Reformation Church since 1958
- Reformation church in Cologne-Bayenthal , according to plans by 1903-1905 Otto March built after war damage 1959-1961 by Heinrich Otto Vogel changed rebuilt
- Reformation church in Magdeburg, built 1909–1910 according to plans by the Wolmirstedter Peitsch building council
- Reformation Memorial Church in Munich-Großhadern , 1969
- Reformation Memorial Church in Nuremberg, 1935-1938, designed by Gottfried Dauner built
- Reformation Church in Recklinghausen , 1911
In isolated cases, church buildings that were the scene of outstanding events in the history of the Reformation were given the additional honorary designation of Reformation Church or Reformation Memorial Church, while the original name was retained:
- The town church Sternberg has been named Reformation Memorial Church since 1931 to commemorate the extraordinary state parliament of June 20, 1549 near Sternberg, where the Reformation was introduced in Mecklenburg.
- The town church of St. Marien in Homberg bears the honorary title of the Reformation Church of Hesse in memory of the Homberg Synod in 1526.
