history

The Reformed residents of Ditzumerverlaat initially attended the services in the Ditzumer church . Since the fishermen and seamen had to walk a long way, the desire for their own pastor grew stronger. In 1844, Ditzumerverlaat had his own pastor employed, but he had to be financed himself and was still subordinate to Ditzum . In the winter months the old school served as a meeting room. In 1887 the parish Ditzumerverlaat was founded. The first pastor was Julius Walter, who worked here from 1887 to 1895. With the help of donations from all over the East Frisian area, the construction of the first church building on site was made possible in 1896.

architecture

The hall church is built from red bricks in the neo-Gothic style in the center of the village. On the long sides of the brick church, large ogival windows provide sufficient light. A tower-like porch on the west side serves as the entrance. The outer wall is structured by buttresses that end in a frieze . At the rear, pilaster strips structure the wall, between each of which two small pointed arched windows are let. For reasons of cost, a separate bell tower was omitted. Instead, a small ridge was attached to the gable roof . It was not until 1992 that a modern bell tower was built.

Interior

Leeflang organ

The interior is simply designed, as is usual for Reformed churches, and offers space for 300 visitors. Originally there was a gallery above the pulpit, on which the organ was placed and where the poor visitors found a seat. Today the organ is on the west wall. Ernst Leeflang from Apeldoorn built the work with nine registers on two manuals and pedal in 1970 . In 1997 an overhaul and a register exchange took place by Regina Stegemann , whereby the shelf 8 ′ was replaced by a Sesquialtera.
