Reformed Church Igis
The Reformed Church in Igis (municipality Landquart ) in Chur Rhine Valley is an Evangelical - Reformed church , which under the since 1973 listed the canton of Grisons is. It was last renovated in 1972.
history
The register of the Pfäfers monastery lists an Igis church around the year 1300 which, according to a note from 1400, was under the patronage of St. Thomas . Presumably the oldest building structure dates from the 9th century and belonged to a sacred building that was dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian .
In 1486 the church was expanded in the late Gothic style and provided with a rounded choir closed on three sides . The year 1486 is also engraved on the entrance portal.
In October 1717 the church survived a great fire in Igis, which destroyed about two thirds of the houses and stables. The fire delayed the purchase of a second bell tower, which took place in 1731. The current church tower dates from 1921. There are four bells hanging in its bell room.
In 2000, the church tower roof was so badly damaged by a storm that it had to be re-covered.
Frescoes
The north side wall of the nave shows frescoes from the Gothic early 15th century. Essentially, a Passion Cycle and the protective mantle Madonna are depicted.
Interior
The pulpit was installed in 1681. The baptismal font also dates from this time.
The organ prospectus was made in Seewis in Prättigau . It is adorned with the coat of arms of the von Salis family . Organ builder Johann Nepomuk Holzhey was responsible for organ building in 1770 . Today's modern organ was installed in 1965.
In the choir there are epitaphs from the von Salis-Marschlins, including one from Field Marshal Ulysses von Salis .
Church organization
The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden runs Igis as a preaching site for the Landquart parish , which forms one of the largest parishes in the canton, within the colloquium V Herrschaft-Fünf Dörfer .
