History and equipment

Pulpit with stone painting

The structure of the church is from the High Middle Ages . Renovations from the years 1515, 1734 and 1949 are known. Their original structure was retained as a Romanesque hall church without a choir , instead with an attached semicircular, vaulted apse . The flat ceiling in the ship was installed in the 19th century. A modern roof turret with a tent roof is located above the entrance area .

It may have been used as a pilgrimage church for travelers from Val Müstair in the pre-Reformation period . The polygonal pulpit is richly decorated with stone paintings that are otherwise unusual for Graubünden on this part of church architecture.

Church organization

S-charl belongs to the parish of Scuol and thus within the Evangelical-Reformed regional church of Graubünden to the Colloquium VIII Engiadina Bassa - Val Müstair .
