The church of Seewis

The Reformed Church in Seewis in Prättigau is a Protestant - Reformed church under the monument of the canton of Grisons . It is located at the entrance to the settlement east of the village center in the Prada district .

History and equipment

The church is first documented in the pre-Reformation period in 1483 under the patronage of St. Laurentius . In 1487 the choir was renewed in the late Gothic style and the nave was extended . In 1756–58 the ship was lengthened and given a barrel vault .

The church tower connects to the north-west of the facade. Its lower part has medieval building stock from around 1300, the upper part dates from the new construction period of 1487, while the striking pointed helmet was put on in 1645 after the end of the turmoil in Graubünden .

On the west wall of the choir inside the church there are epitaphs of family members of the Salis family . The nave shows stucco work in the Rococo style . The pulpit from 1758 also has ornaments from the Rococo era .

The central baptismal font in the choir, which was also made in 1758, also functions as a communion table . The organ is more recent and was installed in 1959.

Church organization

The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden runs Seewis as an independent parish with its own parish within the Colloquium IX Prättigau .
