The Reformed Church Solothurn is a Reformed church building in the city of Solothurn , Switzerland .

history

In 1867, 20 years after the Sonderbund war between conservatives and liberals , the Reformed diaspora community built a church based on plans by Ferdinand Stadler for the first time . Due to immigration from reformed cantons in the course of industrialization , a larger new building soon became necessary. The present church was built between 1922 and 1924 according to plans by Armin Meili . It is located northwest of the old town.

description

Meili's neoclassical church is one of the last historicist church buildings in Switzerland and the last Swiss church that can be assigned to the pre-modern type of transverse church .

Exterior

The church has a monumental portico with mighty pillars decorated with reliefs . The reliefs are by Otto Kappeler and August Suter and show portraits of the patriarchs of the Old Testament, the evangelists and some reformers . At the rear of the nave is a tower with an unusual end in the form of a domed round temple .

Interior

The transverse interior is by the powerful pulpit wall marked, the above the organ - loft is located. The pulpit made of dark gray marble has a wooden table in front of it. The interior is structured by mighty fluted columns with Ionic capitals . According to the classical tradition, the ceiling is designed as a coffered ceiling .

organ

The organ was built in 1925 by the organ builder Carl Theodor Kuhn, and in 2007 the organ builder Kuhn returned it to its original condition from 1925. The pocket store instrument has 52 registers (including three transmitted registers and one extended register) on three manuals and pedal . The playing and stop actions are pneumatic. The positive and the solo work are swellable. Organ concerts are held regularly in summer, including in the St. Ursus Cathedral and in the Jesuit Church (Solothurn) (www.orgelkonzertesolothurn.com).
