The Refuge de l'Étang Fourcat is a refuge belonging to the Montagnards Ariégeois section of the Club Alpin Français . It is located in the town of Auzat in the department of Ariège in the region Occitania in France over the Cirque de l'Etang Fourcat, in the Pyrenees National Park . It is located at an altitude of 2,445 m , making it the highest shelter in the Ariège department.

Features and information

The hut is usually manned from the beginning of July to mid-September. In winter it offers space for 16 people.

Access

Access is via the Pradière power station, along the GR 10 long-distance hiking trail, which passes near the Étang d'Izourt before it leads to the refuge. The hut trail overcomes a difference in altitude of 1265 meters. The hut can also be reached from Mounicou and the Vallon du Picot or from Andorra .

The hut is on or near several peaks.

Transitions

The hut is on the route of the GR 10 long-distance hiking trail , the High Pyrenees hiking trail and the cross-border tour through the Montcalm massif .
