The Refuge des Cosmiques is a refuge in the French Mont-Blanc massif and an important base when climbing Mont Blanc .

The hut is south of Chamonix . It stands on a 3613  m high ice and rock knoll about 500 meters north of the 3532  m high Col du Midi saddle , which connects the Mont Blanc du Tacul ( 4248  m ) with the Aiguille du Midi ( 3842  m ). To the west, steep rock and ice walls drop to the Glacier des Bossons , which is around 800 meters below, while to the east, the Vallée Blanche leads down to the Glacier du Tacul and thus to the Mer de Glace .

The Refuge des Cosmiques is an important starting point for climbing Mont Blanc via Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit . Since the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi was built in 1955, it has been almost exclusively reached from there. The Aiguille du Midi can also be reached from Italy via the Vallée Blanche small gondola lift . The way from the mountain station only takes about 30 minutes, all other approaches to the hut are extremely difficult and long.

The Cosmiques Hut is open today from mid-February to mid-October. Outside of this time, the nearby small Simond hut (built in 1942) is available as a winter room.

The previous building of the refuge was built from 1942 to 1946 as a laboratoire des cosmiques on the initiative and under the direction of the physicist Louis Leprince-Ringuet from the Center national de la recherche scientifique , who wanted to investigate cosmic rays here . The name of today's hut is derived from this original destination. The building was used as a radiation research laboratory from 1947 to 1955. Until 1990, the Center national de la recherche scientifique examined air pollution here, among other things. After a fire, the hut was rebuilt and is now operated by the Chamonix Mountain Guide Association.
