The Refuge du Carro is a refuge in France , in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , within the Haute Maurienne . It is the highest refuge in Savoy. It is administered by the Lyon Villeurbanne section of the Club Alpin Français .
Features and information
In the spring months (mid-March to mid-May) for cross-country skiing and in summer (mid-June to mid-September) the hut is guarded by a guard. The capacity is 61 beds. In winter and when the hut is not manned, the capacity is less with almost 18 beds. The house has a terrace. The winter quarters has a heating stove. During the guard time, meals can be served at will.
Access
There are two ways to access it. You can reach the refuge from the village of l'Écot. This first route is recommended in summer while a second route, starting with Bonneval-sur-Arc , is preferred in winter .
Ascents
The hut is often a stopover for mountaineers who want to climb the Levanna, the Carro-Évettes junction, the Grande aiguille Rousse .
It is a destination for hiking from Bonneval-sur-Arc , the l'Écot or the bridge of the l'Ouglietta, and a descent to the Col du Carro, the Col des Pariotes and the sources of the Arc. It is also a must for the La Dame de Carro via ferrata and for the Percéée needle.
In spring, skiers can explore the West Levanne, the Grande Aiguille Rousse, the Pas du Bouquetin, the Ouille Noire, the Col du Carro, the Col Perdu, the Col Girard, the Col Girard and the Carro-Évettes crossing. Routes to the accommodations of Les Évettes, Refuge du Prariond (Haute-Tarentaise), Rifugio Città di Chivasso (Valle d'Aosta) are used very often.
Transitions
The hut is connected to the Refuge des Évettes and Refuge d'Avérole , which enables glacier hikes . From the hut you can see the Glaciers de la Vanoise . From the hut, hikers can go to two lakes, Lac Noir and Lac Blanc.
